Review: Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24hr Foundation

A lot of you have probably been waiting for my review on the Lancôme Teint Ultra Idole 24H foundation. I know it's been a little while since I showed you the samples that I got from the Lancôme counter. Believe it or not but I am still using my sample! After much deliberation, I did decide to buy it but obviously it hasn't been used yet as I'm waiting for my sample to finish completely. Those who got a sample will know that the sample lasts a long time as you get quite a lot. It's good that Lancôme provides enough product in the sample bottle for you to make a concrete opinion on.  

As you know, when I went to get colour matched, I was given #11 Muscade but my flatmate also gave me #13 Sienne to try out. Just like I thought it would be, #13 Sienne was way too dark. At first, I couldn't help think #11 Muscade was a bit on the orange side and also dark but once I've completed my full face, it's not as noticeable. Because #11 was dark, I did try out #10 Beige Praline but it looked a bit pinky for my skintone. Apparently their odd shades tend to be warm tones and their even shades tend to be cool (I'm not sure how true this is). With me being neutral, obviously it makes it harder to find a shade that's spot on. 

• Oil and transfer free

• Sweat and friction resistant

• Without mask effect

• Suitable for all skin types, even sensitive

• Dermatologically tested

• Non-comedogenic

Coverage

Though the Lancôme website does not state this, the assistant at the Lancôme counter said that this is a full coverage foundation. Personally I would describe the coverage as medium-buildable as you can definitely layer it up to full coverage without looking mask-like. Even though I do feel that this has medium coverage, the foundation is so natural looking and skin-like! It covers imperfections without looking like you're wearing so many layers of foundation and is very comfortable to wear. 

Staying Power

From the name of this foundation, it is obviously meant to last 24hrs. I don't wear foundation for this long so I can't say if it lives up to the claims. The longest I've worn this foundation for to test it out is 18hrs. I don't usually have a problem with foundation sliding off or anything like that and all my foundations tend to last very long on my face. After 18hrs, the foundation was still there though I was shiny around my t-zone and obviously it didn't look freshly applied. 

With this foundation, I get the slightest shine (which really isn't worth noting) after 8hrs and shine becomes a bit more visible after 12hrs. 

Texture

This is a liquid foundation. It is neither too thick or runny. I would say it has a lighter consistency than MAC Matchmaster and definitely Estee Lauder Double Wear. The texture makes the foundation very blend-able and adds to the natural finish that it gives. 

Colour Range

The Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H is available in 18 shades in the UK. I think the shades in America differ to the ones in the UK so make sure you check that out!

The lightest shade in the UK is #005 Beige Ivoire and the darkest is #15 Acajou so there should be a shade to suit everyone. 

The 6 shades for women of colour have SPF 5 whilst the other 12 shades have SPF 15. This is because darker shades can tend to look ashy if the SPF is high. 

Finish

Like I said previously, this foundation has a natural finish that looks and feels like skin! Even though the finish is natural, it still manages to cover imperfections on the face and create a flawless canvas. It can also be worn alone without powder.

Size and Price

As like most foundations, the bottle contains 30ml of product and is priced at £27

Overall Thoughts

I really do love this foundation! Believe it or not but I haven't touched my Estee Lauder Double Wear since getting a sample of the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H. The fact that this is a medium-full coverage foundation and it feels so light on the skin just makes me love it even more. I remember when I first got my sample, I kept touching my skin because it felt as though I wasn't wearing anything. With a lot of other foundations, you know they are there and that you are wearing makeup. With this foundation, it's easy to forget you've got foundation on. 





One thing that used to bug me about this foundation is that it is fragranced. Initially I hated it because I thought it was very strong but as time went on, I got used to it. It doesn't linger for the whole day but when your makeup is initially applied, you will definitely smell it. If you're not a fan of fragranced foundations then this may not be for you! 





My only problem with this foundation is the undertone range they have for women of colour. For darker skin, they only have warm and cool tones whereas neutral shades are available for lighter skin tones which is a bit annoying. Why not make neutral shades available for everyone? =/





In comparison to my Estee Lauder Double Wear, this foundation looks more natural and feels lighter on the skin but I will say that the Estee Lauder foundation is more resistant to sweat than this one is; in my opinion anyway.





Lancome have done very well in making this foundation suitable for all skin types which means absolutely anyone can use it whether your skin is dry or oily. 

Apparently there is some sort of technology in it that helps combat oil if you have oily skin and also makes the foundation retouch free which I'm sure is a plus for those out there with oily skin. 





Even though I said this foundation is a bit dark, I'm still going to carry on using this shade because once my MAC Mineralize Skin Finish has been applied on top, it looks better (and my neck is also darker than my face and chest so it helps with the transition). This is much easier than having to mix foundations like I did with my Estee Lauder Double Wear. 

Fingers crossed in the near future, Lancome will provide more shades for us darker ladies!

If you weren't already aware, Lancôme launched their brand new foundation yesterday! It is called Teint Idole Ultra 24H. This is a long lasting foundation and is meant to last 24 hours! Unfortunately I wasn't able to get their 7 day trial because every time I went into Boots, the lady on the counter wasn't there and she's the only person who could give out samples. Yesterday I happened to be in town again and luckily the consultant was there. The very lovely and friendly lady sat me down so that we could look at different shades in order to find a match for my skin tone. When trying to find a match using her colour chart, we were stuck between #11 Muscade and #13 Sienne. Eventually we settled for a sample of #13 Sienne but as she brought out the bottle, I knew it would be too dark. #13 Sienne looked the slightest bit darker or around the same colour as my Estee Lauder Double Wear in Truffle (which I already have to mix because it is too dark for me). I then asked to see the bottle of #11 Muscade. This definitely looked like more of a match so she gave me a sample of #11 to take home instead. 

I was with my friend, it was very cold, we were running short of time and she also wanted to try a sample. We are around the same skin tone so the consultant gave her a sample of #11 and a large sample of #13 in case I got home and decided that #11 wasn't my match (my friend and I live together). 

I used my sample today and so far so good! My friend also tried her sample as well. Initially she tried #13 but she said it was too dark for her so she had to take it all off and use #11 which was a good match. She's left #13 in my room because she doesn't like it. I am still yet to try it though I am happy with #11. As this is my first time using this foundation, I cannot really go into a review yet but I'll let you know how it goes and give you full details on it later.

I'm hoping it can live up to my Estee Lauder Double Wear because I'm getting a bit bored of mixing it with a lighter foundation for a better match.

I haven't done a "Back To Basics" post in a while as I wasn't sure whether to carry on or not. I don't want to bore you with so much writing but I know some of you liked this series so I guess I'll continue with it.

As you can tell from the title, this "Back To Basics" post is on foundation types. Foundation to me is one of the most important steps for your makeup as it is the base of everything. You need to ensure that you're starting off with a good base before you continue layering with the rest of your makeup because using the wrong type of foundation can really ruin your whole look. This post is to inform you of the different types of foundations that are available to you. I am not a professional so I do not know about everything out there and I can only tell you about things that I am aware of. 

Foundations can come in many forms;

• Liquid

A liquid foundation is probably the only type of foundation I'll ever use simply because there is a variety of finishes and formulas to choose from. You are bound to find one to suit your skin as they are available in formulas that are for sensitive skin, oil-free, moisturizing, illuminating, the list goes on. 

Liquid foundations also come in a range of coverage. Whether you're one to go for a very natural look and prefer a sheer coverage or maybe you have scars that you may want to cover up therefore prefer a full coverage, you will definitely find a liquid foundation that you like. They are also available in matte, demi-matte, satin, dewy and many more finishes. There are not many limits with this type of foundation and that's probably why it is the most popular. 

Examples: Nars Sheer Glow/Matte, MAC Studio Fix Fluid, Revlon Colour Stay, Estee Lauder Double Wear, Makeup Forever HD Foundation, Mary Kay Timewise Matte-Wear Foundation, etc. 

• Cream

As far as I'm aware, cream foundations do not have as much range and variety compared to a liquid foundation. They are not suited for all skin types due to their formula. Because of the creamy and moisturizing formula of a cream foundation, they tend to be more suited for dry skin. They also usually provide a fuller coverage due to the rich consistency but can be sheered out if necessary. 

Examples: Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation, MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation, Illamasqua Cream Foundation, etc.

• Cream-to-powder

Cream-to-powder foundations are very similar to cream foundations but instead they dry to a powder finish. Due to the fact that they dry to a powder finish, those with oily skin will be able to use this. This type of foundation also saves time as it is kind of like a foundation and powder in one therefore you do not need to apply powder on top. 

Examples: MAC Studio Tech, Mary Kay Creme-To-Powder Foundation, Benefit Cream-To-Powder Foundation, Sleek Creme-To-Powder, etc.

• Mousse

Mousse foundations are whipped which results in a light consistency and coverage. Because of its light consistency, it feels very light on the skin and is natural looking. This type of foundation is more suited to normal/dry/aging skin types. 

Examples: Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse 

• Stick 

A stick foundation is a cream foundation and concealer in one. They tend to be full coverage foundations and for those who want to cover scars and imperfections or to help even out very uneven skin tones. The foundation doesn't need to be applied on the whole face but can be applied where needed and then blended out to help perfect your complexion. 

Examples: Bobbi Brown Stick Foundation, IMAN Stick Foundation, Shu Uemura Nobara Cream Cover Stick Foundation, etc

• Powder 

Powder foundations are good for those who are on-the-go. They are usually packaged in compacts which makes them convenient to travel with. This type of foundation is more suited to oily skin and shouldn't really be used on dry skin as it may emphasize dryness/dry patches. Powder foundations provide more coverage than pressed powders therefore can be used alone. They are also buildable and the coverage can be controlled depending on your application technique and how much you layer/build. 

Examples: MAC Studio Fix Plus Foundation, Illamasqua Powder Foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear Powder, Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation.

Review: MAC Matchmaster SPF 15 Foundation

Review: MAC Matchmaster SPF 15 Foundation..♥

As you are all probably aware, I went to get a sample of MAC's most recent foundation some time last month from my local counter. I have worn it a few times now and I think I'm ready to give it my own personal review. 

Though I have tried a range of MAC foundations, I've never really found one that I would say I loved. They had spent quite a while developing the technology for this foundation so I thought I'd try it out.

Adding to Matchmaster’s true-to-life appeal is its moisturizing demi-matte finish, medium buildable coverage, and line-reducing soft focus powders. Add the fact that this formula reduces excess shine-creating oil, and who could resist?"





Coverage:

 As described by MAC, I would agree that this foundation has a medium coverage but I would say it was more on the lighter side of a medium coverage. If you are somebody who likes a full coverage and would like to cover imperfections such as scars, blemishes or hyperpigmentation, you may find that the coverage of this foundation isn't enough for you. Though it may cover some blemishes to a certain extent, I don't think it will cover everything.

 I found that when using Matchmaster some of your natural skin does tend to show through which is expected as it is only a medium coverage foundation. Because it isn't too heavy, it looks very skin-like. It is great for those who maybe just want to even out their skin-tone but still want a natural look.

Finish: 

This foundation has a very natural demi-matte finish but I usually finish my face using a powder. It can definitely be worn without a powder to sustain the demi-matte finish. 





Texture:

One thing I will credit this foundation for is the texture. It is liquid and has a lovely texture which is very blendable. I've never had a problem with blending this foundation into my skin. Once applied, it looks very smooth as well.

The texture is a bit thicker than some foundations that I currently own but this isn't a problem once applied. 

Staying Power:

I have worn this foundation for up to 10hrs and as with all my other foundations, it seemed to stay on my face pretty well. My only problem is that I found myself looking shiny after around 5hrs and would need to touch up a bit to keep my makeup looking fresh. When used with the Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Powder, I found that it took longer before I needed to touch up and looked good for about maybe 7hrs.

I like my makeup looking fresh for the majority of the day and this foundation just didn't do that for me. I hate shine and having to touch up during the day so I'm not too sure about MAC's claim that this foundation "reduces excess shine-creating oil"

Colour Range:

This foundation comes in 14 different shades. 1.0 being the palest and 10.0 being the darkest. The shades have been labelled differently to MAC's original labelling system.





Below is a rough conversion of shade numbers:

♥ 2.0 - NC20/NC25/NW20

♥ 3.0 - NC30

♥ 4.0 - NC35/NC37/NW30

♥ 5.0 - NC40/NC41/NC42

♥ 6.0 - NW33/NW35/NC44

♥ 7.0 - NW40/NW43/NC45

♥ 7.5 - NC50/NC55

♥ 8.0 - NW44/NW45

♥ 8.5 - NW46/NW47

♥ 9.0 - NW48

♥ 9.5 - NW50/NW55

♥ 10.0 - NW58/NW60

All the shades in Matchmaster have a neutral undertone.

I normally use NC50 throughout the MAC ranges and though MAC claims that with this new technology, the foundation shade should adjust to your skin tone, I didn't find 7.5 was a perfect match for me when the foundation was originally applied but I guess throughout the day, it did adjust ever so slightly though the match still wasn't fantastic.

 7.0 was too light and 8.0 was too dark. 

Price:

This foundation is £24.50 and costs more than most MAC foundations. In comparison to their Studio Fix Fluid (which is £19.50), the Matchmaster costs more because you get 35ml worth of product and Studio Fix Fluid has only 30ml of product.

Overall Thoughts: 

To be quite honest, I was expecting much more from this foundation and I don't know why. I think because I was so desperate to find a foundation in MAC that I loved, I was hoping that Matchmaster would be the one. Don't get me wrong, this foundation is still lovely but I am not blown away to the extent where I'd rush out to purchase it. There really isn't anything that it does for me, that most of my other foundations can't. 

The claim that it adjusts to your skin tone may work better for others but I didn't find it great. All in all I was quite disappointed with this foundation because I had such high hopes and expectations from it.

As far as I am aware, it didn't make me break out or anything but my friend who got a sample at the same time that I did, suffered from break outs and therefore stopped using it.

For now, I don't think that I'll be purchasing this foundation but I will continue using the samples (me being cheeky, I got two) that I got from the counter until they run out.
